How to Stay Grounded Part 3: Stones of Stability
How are you holding up? Does it sometimes feel as though you’re coming unhinged?
Me, too! The news cycle sure doesn’t quit. And if you’re raising kids in this world, like I
am, end-of-school-year mayhem is in full swing.
That’s why I’m so glad plenty of tools exist to help us find our footing – quickly – anytime
we start feeling like we’re spinning out!
If you’ve missed any of the prior posts in this series, check out our tips on how to Rein
in Your Root Chakra and Soak In Nature to help you come back down to terra firma
anytime you lose your cool.
This week we continue our 5-part series by digging deeper – like, literally – going
beneath the surface of the ground to uncover even more stabilization sources.
Crystals! Gemstones! Stones for Stability!
Crystals are precious stones mined from deep inside the Earth that people revere
because they carry all sorts of spiritual significance and power.
Lots of folks use crystals for holistic healing, for jewelry, or for comfort, protection, and
clarity of mind.
Others keep gemstones on their bookshelf – or tuck ‘em into their bra – just because
they’re so beautiful.
Not to knock ordinary rocks or anything. Your average igneous or sedimentary is super
cool and gorgeous in its own way. Rocks consist of a mixture of various minerals, which
accounts for the variety of types, colors, shapes, textures and densities we like to kick
down the road or skip across a lake.
But crystals appear so striking and extraordinary to our naked eye because if we were
to study them under a microscope, we’d discover that their molecules are made up not
of a mixture of minerals, but of one, ultra-pure, single substance.
Further, we’d notice that those tiny particles inside of crystals are arranged in a very
tight-knit, orderly, consistent, lattice-work of repeating patterns.
So their outward appearance is just…pleasing and eye-catching.
But crystals are more than just stunningly gorgeous and spectacularly pure.
They carry an electromagnetic charge, too, which our bodies respond to.
Whuuuuut?
I know. It’s so cool. That’s why Una carries such a variety of them! We can’t get enough
of crystals here at the shop!
Some crystals kick into gear after being squeezed.
Others activate when exposed to heat.
Either way, at an atomic level, these dazzling shiny objects are always vibrating.
(But don’t worry – you won’t actually notice any buzzing if you sneak one into your bra!)
Different crystals are excellent for helping us activate whichever kind of charge our body
needs so that we can find our center of gravity and feel better in our own skin.
When we keep these precious rocks nearby, we come into contact with the frequencies
they give off. And that means we benefit from all the goodness they offer – right from
the soul of Mother Earth, herself.
Here are my favorite sacred stones for stability that you can use in times of turbulence:
Carnelian
A blood-red rock with spidery veins and dark swirls, Carnelian can stay hidden in your
pocket as its properties activate your Root chakra, remove self-doubt, enhance your
ability to think logically, and help you vanquish fear.
Red Jasper
Red Jasper teleports you to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with its orangey-red color
reminiscent of the desert soil. Stick a hunk of it in your purse to bring about justice to an unfair situation. Hold it in your palm as you meditate to help you establish clear boundaries and cleanse your aura. Or wrap it in twine and dangle it from your rearview mirror to ignite your problem-solving capabilities and provide stability, no matter where you go.
Moss Agate
Earthy-green Moss Agate takes me right back to my days of silently stomping through the rainforests of the Olympic Mountains, when I lived in Seattle during the era of “finding myself.” Every tree and boulder in the Pacific Northwest is draped in a shawl of vibrant green moss. The forests are peaceful in a way that’s hard to grasp until you go there. So it makes perfect sense to me that the stone we call Moss Agate comes from
that region and also happens to carry some seriously peace-inducing properties. It’s known for its ability to help us chill out, practice patience, wait for the right timing before we lunge into frenetic action, connect to our center, and calm our emotions.
Fluorite
Fluorite is a beautiful stone that can appear purple and blue or even light green, depending on how you hold it up to the light. Either way, it always comes with a rogue streak of white, representing that flash of clarity we get when our minds are clear and our thoughts are calm. Carry Fluorite when you’re on-the-go to stay in touch with that internal chillaxed feeling you have after a good nap. Keep one in your liquor cabinet and reach for it instead of for the whiskey to ease any pent-up stress you’re holding inside. Or store it in your medicine cabinet next to the ibuprofen, because its presence can relieve minor aches and pains. Wherever you keep it, Fluorite can help you connect with that sense of inner peace that you know your spirit possesses, but which can be easy to forget exists in this noisy world.
Hematite
Hematite, a gunmetal grey stone, makes me feel like a badass. It’s known for its ability
to dissolve negative juju and encourage empowerment. Keep it on your nightstand so
that you wake up with a boost to your self-confidence. Wear it to stay protected from
jerks. Or keep it in your pocket for stability and strength anytime self-doubt starts to
creep in.
Una carries all of these gorgeous gemstones in various sizes and in different forms –
some you can carry or display in your home; others you wear. Make sure to spend
some quiet time in our crystal room on your next visit, and see which one of these
lovelies calls your name!
Bonus Tips:
To cleanse your crystals, place them on a tray outside during the next New Moon, and
let the energy in the air swipe them clean.
To charge them up for added potency, wait for the next Full Moon, set them on your
windowsill or in your backyard, and let the moonlight work its magic.
*Some crystals, like Hematite and Pyrite, cannot tolerate moisture. They’ll disintegrate if
they get wet. So keep an eye on the weather forecast if you’re going to place your
crystals outside for a cleanse or a charge overnight, and make sure the skies are clear.
One last warning: some experts advise against charging or cleansing your crystals
during a lunar eclipse. When those portals open, anything can happen. So it’s best not
to risk amplifying any chaos that’s released into the Universe during an eclipse portal, and to wait until the dust settles instead. Keep those babies in your bra during eclipse season, where you know they’ll be safe!
