How to Stay Grounded: A 5-Part Series to Help You Find Your Inner Anchor
It’s a topsy-turvy world out there, and one heck of a bumpy timeline we’re living through as a collective. If you’ve been feeling, lately, like your thoughts are spinning out or that your emotions are all over the place, you are definitely not alone, and you are absolutely not crazy.
The Sun, Mars, Saturn and Neptune are all transiting Aries right now – creating a frequency we haven’t felt here on Earth for 5,000 years!
It means that we humble humans are undergoing some seriously red-hot, gung-ho, take-charge, run-straight-into-the-fire-toward-a-new-beginning kind of energy right now – during the Year of the Fire Horse, no less.
Astrologers aren’t calling this moment we’re living through The Great Reset for nothin’.
So, whether we like it or not, things are shifting for us, right under our feet.
Some say we’re lucky to be alive to witness it. Others say, Just make it all stop now, pleeeease!
Whichever camp you’re in, no matter who you are, and no matter what’s shifting in your life at this time, know that there are simple tools that are available for you to use right now to find stability, stay grounded, and get yourself anchored, no matter what the planets are doing, no matter what life throws your way.
What follows is the first strategy I’ll be sharing as part of a five-part series that’ll introduce you to some of my favorite practices and household items that really work for finding your inner anchor and remaining calm.

Rein In Your Root Chakra
Energy flows where attention goes, and oftentimes, we find that we’re ‘spinning out’ because our thoughts and feelings are swirling around in our minds, or because we’re carrying around the weight of the world inside our very hearts.
So it’s helpful to take your attention and drop it down into the Root Center, the basis of our body where, in prehistoric times, a tail might’ve grown ;)
Anchoring begins in the Root. After all, this is the electromagnetic epicenter of our very being, and it’s responsible for providing us with stability, security and the sense that we’re solid and unshakeable, deep within.
The Root is located at the base of the spine and encompasses our ‘sit bones’; it literally holds us upright. So…it’s kind of a big deal!
Here’s why reining in your Root Center, and making sure it’s operating at its optimum, really matters.

A misaligned, out-of-whack, low-functioning Root has us feeling stressed out all the time, about everything. It’s no wonder we feel unstable with a dysregulated Root.
We don’t let ourselves sit down to relax.
We can’t stop moving.
We never pause to just breathe.
We’re constantly under pressure, trying to get it all done.
But the to-do list is never-ending.
There’s always more work, more chores, more doing, to be done!
And there’s never enough time to do it, so we begin to feel like we can never keep up!
And that leads us straight into burnout, and maybe even depression.
Our Root might be so overtaxed that we drop – hard. And then we have a really tough time getting going again. It’s just so comfy on the couch! And facing all the to-do’s can feel so daunting that we can’t even tackle the first tiny task on our list.
Andplusalso, an energetically-misaligned Root Center can create physiological symptoms, so we might have low back pain, weak hips, damaged hip flexors and poor posture. Ugh.
(*Obviously, there are a ton of legitimate medical reasons for back and hip pain. Consult a doctor or physical therapist if you suffer, but do consider giving the ol’ Root Center a little TLC!)
By contrast, a well-oiled, regularly-exercised, high-vibrational, optimally-functioning Root means we have a strong trunk, a pain-free mid-section, and great posture.
That’s because we take the time to process stress out of our bodies – healthily.
We lock in whenever we need to get our work done, but we also know how to chillax when it’s time to take a load off.

We don’t succumb to external pressure, like midnight emails from our boss asking us to come in early the next day, or daily bulletins from our kids’ school asking for donations. Nope: we hold our boundaries and wait until morning to get back to ‘em. And this is how we keep our sanity!
We draw a line between work time, rest time, and play time. And honoring those dividing lines means we don’t wind up over-booking ourselves, multi-tasking when we should be focusing on what matters, rushing all the time to get from here to there, and showing up disheveled and all outta breath.
With a high-vibe Root, we get where we need to go, relatively on time and with our teeth cleaned, because we understand how to manage our schedule without feeling guilty about what’s still incomplete – because we trust ourselves that we’ll take care of our to-do’s when the time is right, or when help comes along, or when we feel like it!
We understand that we need intermittent breaks, so we stop to smell the lilacs, and (gasp!) we even engage in routine self-care and maintenance. This is what allows us to feel supported, stable, and replenished enough to return to that state of productivity where we can, appropriately, Get Stuff Done.
If you identify with the former description of the misaligned Root and not the latter, no sweat. You’re not in trouble! It’s just that your Root may need some de-conditioning and a few small tweaks to get you back to standing firm and stress-free.

Awareness of how your body is operating is the first step, so you’re already halfway to a more grounded, stable you! Here are a few other things you can do, right now, to anchor into stability:
- Pay attention to how you sit and how you stand. Notice your posture. Do you slouch? Do you lean forward or backward, or shift all your weight to one side of your body, without realizing it?
- Make a conscious effort to adjust your posture. Straighten your back, focusing on that core deep inside the base of your spine, clench your buttcheeks and stiffen your mid-section.
- Draw attention to your feet, feeling the weight of your body push into the ground beneath. Notice your stability now, and take time throughout your day to become aware of your posture. Bonus points if you go outside with no shoes or socks on and sink your toes into the grass!
- Try some super-anchoring yoga poses like Warrior or Chair pose. If you’re up for it, work in some planks, squats or complete Sun Salutations.

I even find that scrubbing the floor can be profoundly grounding for me – no, really. Anytime we’re pushing or pressing against a hard surface – and putting a little elbow grease in – we release the stress that’s been building up inside, healthily, and regain our inner balance.
Pushups, obviously, count. But who wants to do those?

Something else to enhance your Root-balancing act, which is a whole lot easier than scrubbing the floor and even sexier than doing pushups, is to glide on a little Una-made Root Chakra Perfume, an anchoring blend of earthy Rosewood, Sandalwood, Myrrh, Patchouli and Vetiver essential oils.
Dab a little onto the soles of your feet, and you’ll feel grounded all day. Available in-store and online for $18.
