5 Practical Ways to Use Human Design IRL
By Janeen Ellsworth
From landing a dream job to becoming a better parent, people around the world are using Human Design in all kinds of practical ways to drastically improve their lives. In this post, I share some of my favorite uses for leveraging this quirky system to get more fulfillment on a daily basis.
Recently I shared insights on the 5 Energy Types in Human Design, plus tips on how to interpret the lines, shapes and numbers on your Human Design chart so you can use them to gain deeper self-awareness and unlock more fulfillment in life.
Today we’re putting all that newfound self-awareness into practice so you can start using your body’s natural energy flow to up-level your work life, your relationships, your overall attitude and your circumstances, each and every day.
Here are 5 of my favorite practical ways to leverage Human Design:
-
To Be a Better Parent
-
To Find the Right Career
-
To Strengthen Your Marriage
-
To Build Self-Confidence
-
To Make New Friends
Let’s Dive In!
Use Human Design to Be a Better Parent
Today’s parents leverage Human Design for more than just a fun, zodiac-infused glimpse into their child’s unique personality.
By interpreting a child’s chart, Moms and Dads can now forecast a ton of data that helps them really get to know their kiddo, inside and out, before that child can even speak.
The Human Design chart reveals everything from how much physical activity, food and even rest their newborn will need, to what their toddler is likely to be afraid of, to how vulnerable their adolescent will likely be to things like peer pressure, risky behavior and shopping addiction.
The chart also pinpoints information like what kind of learning environment is most suitable for a school-age child and how acutely a teen is on track to rebel.
Parents look to this spiritual-scientific system to discover whether their kids will be ‘late bloomers,’ whether they’ll have a shy or bold personality, whether a child is likely to struggle with self-worth, if they’re destined to be a chatterbox or keep their lips zipped, whether they’ll need fidget toys, if they’ll be able to handle numerous extracurricular activities, whether the child will worry excessively (and about what), and so much more.
Truly, the chart is absolutely packed with insights about how a person, no matter how old, is hardwired to operate.
Parents even take their kiddos’ charts to their therapists, because there’s information baked into that that can support diagnoses of things like ADHD and depression, but that also offer clues as to how to help a child who’s struggling with these issues.
The sooner parents discover this critical data, the sooner they understand exactly who their children really are, deep down, and what’s making them tick. And the sooner they can equip themselves to meet their kiddos right where they are, anytime the child expresses challenging behaviors or encounters a difficult.
Parents who have a grasp on their child’s Human Design hold the keys to guiding them in a way that makes the child feel seen, heard, recognized and understood. And these parents are better able to respond to child’s unwanted actions with compassion instead of dismay.
This kind of deep awareness is a boon when it comes to maintaining healthy boundaries and keeping critical lines of communication open between parents and kids.
A mom or dad who keeps their kiddo’s HD in their back pocket is more likely to offer meaningful, relevant solutions that actually solve problems for a child who’s feeling afraid, unstable, out of control, or who’s melting down.
That’s because these parents are able to let go of any unrealistic expectations they might’ve been carrying before, about who they had hoped their child would become.
Rather, they can celebrate who their kiddo actually is, and honor their deepest impulses, motivations, yearnings and radiance.
Use Human Design to Find the Perfect Career
Since a person’s Human Design chart is packed with data about their greatest strengths and challenge areas, it’s a must-have tool for anyone looking for a career change or j-o-b.
By interpreting the info on your chart, you can narrow down your search to find:
-
the right professional field for you,
-
the wrong kinds of jobs to avoid,
-
the right kind of work environment that will truly support your well-being,
-
the ideal kinds of coworkers to look for,
-
and the right kind of job activities that will allow you to turn your passions and gifts into income,
-
the appropriate career pathway that will showcase your best skills while helping you develop your growth areas.
If you don’t yet understand the particulars of all those shapes, lines and numbers on your chart, you can have it analyzed by a professional who specializes in Human Design for Career, who will help understand the power you’re really made of and how to use it to change your life’s trajectory toward greater prosperity, success, impact and fulfillment.
I love to help clients use their chart to strengthen their résumé. Each line, shape, number and symbol is rich with accurate descriptions of a person’ most authentic gifts, which we can adapt to their CV in a way that paints a full, glowing picture of their true character, skills and potential and gets past the dreaded bots.
Using the chart as inspiration for a list of powerful keywords is far more meaningful, and more likely to land you an interview, than randomly tossing together a list of overused, jargony phrases just to impress a future boss.
What’s even better is that when you’re dialed into the power of your Human Design, it means you stop forcing yourself to be someone you’re not. There’s no more fake it ‘til you make it, no more wasting your time applying to the wrong positions, and no more regrettable decisions about landing a job you discover, later on, that you really don’t like.
Use Human Design to Strengthen Your Marriage
If you’re navigating any kind of long-term, committed relationship, knowing your partner’s Human Design is a must – especially if mutual understanding is important to you as a couple.
(Pro Tip: Please don’t look up anyone’s chart without their knowledge or consent! This only makes you look sneaky, like you were creeping on them behind their back! Send them this link instead!)
Yes, there IS such a thing as a Connection Chart, which reveals the energetic frequency that’s created when you and your Plus One blend your charts together.
By interpreting a Connection Chart, a Human Design analyst who specializes in relationship readings will help you see:
-
Where and how, exactly, sparks are most likely to fly between you and your partner,
-
where one of you is always dominating and the other is always having to make concessions,
-
where the two of you are most likely to find common ground,
-
how likely you are to stay together for the long haul (and what you can do to ensure you stay committed),
-
what each of you needs in order to feel supported, seen, heard, appreciated and loved,
-
and how you can each, individually, make some adjustments in order to reduce things like arguments and power struggles.
But simply knowing the basics of your own chart is enough to make a big difference in a romantic partnership, because it means you understand how you are meant to operate, and you get how your energy affects others and how their energy affects you.
Self-awareness, after all, is a huge factor in maintaining healthy relationships.
What’s even better is if your partner is willing to learn about their Design, too.
Ask them to pull their chart, and then put your next date night on the calendar for a chart swap sesh!
Cozy up together on the couch with a nice glass of wine or tea, swap charts, and get busy discovering more about each other’s energy flow!
Keep your phone or laptop handy so you can look up what the various shapes (Energy Centers), lines (Channels) and numbers (Gates) mean.
(Or subscribe to my Substack, Surviving the New Paradigm, where I share info about these chart elements every week!)
This process can be so fun and will definitely deepen your connection, because you’ll both make revelations about yourselves and about each other.
Understanding your partner’s natural energy means you stop pushing them to be someone they’re not – and they stop pushing you.
It makes their weird quirks completely justifiable. It explains your whacky impulses in clear terms. And it offers logical explanations for why all of us are the way we are!
Acknowledging and celebrating each partner’s individual differences means you both hold compassion and acceptance for one another’s natural tendencies – no matter how infuriating they might (sometimes) be!
Use Human Design to (Re)Build Self-Confidence
If you grew up in a home with a critical or domineering parent, or
if you were ever bullied as a child (or as an adult), or
if you’ve ever been stuck in an abusive relationship, or
if you’ve ever been dumped, or
if you struggle with addiction, or
if you’ve ever been shamed by someone you admired, or
if you’ve ever compared yourself to someone on the cover of a magazine, or
if you’ve ever looked in the mirror and frowned, or
if there’s anything about you that makes you different from other people, or
if you’re a human…
then there’s a pretty decent chance your self-confidence has taken a beating.
As one of my dearest friends once wisely said, “Being a person is hard.”
Life throws us into so many challenging situations.
It’s really difficult to keep picking yourself up and dusting yourself off every time you get knocked down.
Not everyone is inherently resilient, willing to grin and bear it, or can be easily convinced to just move on after being kicked in the proverbial teeth.
Some of us are more sensitive than others, and building our confidence back up can take time.
Getting to know the elements of your Human Design is a great tool to employ to see yourself through a new, more empowering lens that helps you build that confidence fast.
Oftentimes, when we learn about our body’s energy, as explained by our HD chart, we realize gifts that we never knew we had.
We see ourselves as having power that we may have never gotten the chance to fully develop.
We discover that the things we tend to hide nowadays from others, or that we’ve watered down so we’d be more likable (because they’re what got us in trouble earlier in life) are actually our most extraordinary traits, which we came into the world to use in this lifetime!
We realize that what got us punished or yelled at, way back when, was that we weren’t using our power to its fullest potential, or that we were using it in the wrong way, because we didn’t know there was a high-vibrational way to express the energy that was moving through us.
Learning your Human Design is, I believe, Step 1 to reclaiming your inner power, because it gives you new language through which to better understand yourself,
it gives you permission (not that you ever needed it!) to be who you really are,
and it helps you feel proud of the person you’ve always known was living inside you.
Step 2 is the part where you let that radiant being out of her tough, outer shell, because she deserves to shine bright for all the world to see!
Use Human Design to Make New (& Lasting) Friendships
When you’re self-aware, fulfilled and confident, you become a magnet for great people who are also self-aware, fulfilled and confident.
Learning your Human Design helps you fast-track the self-awareness, fulfillment-unlocking, confidence-building process, because it outlines for you all of your greatest strengths plus any areas that require your special attention for further development.
Facing these undeniable truths – both the “good” and the “bad” about yourself – can be jarring; confronting, even.
But if you’re brave enough to take the information in your chart seriously, and to grapple with those pieces of you that have yet to be developed, then you have what it takes to face your shadows head on, release them, and embrace all the things that make you truly extraordinary.
It takes time and effort to let go of old beliefs about who you thought you were “supposed to” be, how you were taught you “should” behave, and what you “ought to” do with your life.
But once you do, and you choose, instead, to own your power, that’s when you begin to radiate truth and magnetism.
You can’t help but make good friends when you’re walking through the world in your most natural, unencumbered, energetic state.
It’s impossible not to attract interesting, fun, kind-hearted people of integrity into your sphere when you’re speaking your truth, showing your magic, and living as your most authentic self.
When you’ve integrated your shadow self into your authentic self, you stop pursuing the wrong friendships, because you recognize your own value and worth. And you only open yourself to others who recognize your greatness, too.
What blocks us from real friendship in this age of unprecedented loneliness?
The constant self-criticism, the ever-present feeling that we’re less-than, the barrage of diminishing thoughts that we’re not enough, and the relentless negative self-talk we engage in.
These unresourceful behaviors keep us hiding our true selves and, instead, showing up for life as some watered-down substitute of who we really are.
Masking our true nature just to fit in doesn’t make people like us.
It doesn’t make us become more acceptable, more palatable or more popular.
And it doesn’t win us friends.
It just means we muzzle our radiance, deny our true power, and cut ourselves off from what we really deserve:
mutually-nourishing connection with good-hearted souls who appreciate us for who we really are.
